How can I find legit work from home jobs for moms?

This is a question many stay-at-home moms and those that want to be a stay at home mom ask themselves.

I started my work at home life (doing job #4 & 6 on the list) before having my baby girl and it’s the best thing I ever did.

Today, I work from home blogging full-time. 

Now, with this blog (and more specifically with this article!), I want to provide legit work from home jobs for moms like me who need to find a way to make money at home while raising their children.

Some of these work at home jobs may suit you better than others depending on the situation for you and your family.

You know your situation better than anyone, some jobs for housewives and moms require more focus than others so decide what’s right for you and your family.

There are some opportunities here of the best jobs for moms with no degree and no experience too.

Here’s a list of legit work at home jobs for moms that doesn’t involve any scams.

1. Become a Proofreader From Home

If you like to read and can easily spot errors in a book or document, then this may be an excellent work from home option for you!

Proofreaders normally make somewhere between $1000-4000 a month.

Some companies do hire without experience but it’s a good idea to get some sort of training.

2. Virtual Assistant

Becoming a Virtual Assistant is one of the best and legit work from home job for moms. You can offer many services offered which can include creating content for bloggers, posting on social media, managing emails, bookkeeping, and a lot more! You can even learn some more skills along the way and offer those services to clients.

If you are not sure what services to offer, you can get a list of ideas by grabbing this list.

How much money can I make as a VA? You can earn anywhere between $25-$100 per hour.

Firstly, I recommend watching this free workshop online offered by Kayla Sloan, a very successful virtual assistant.

3. General Transcription Jobs

Working as an online transcriptionist is also another awesome and in high demand work from home job. You basically listen to audio clips that have been recorded and type out what is being said into a Microsoft Word document or into Google docs.

Some transcriptionists will specialize in medical or legal transcription but there is plenty of work if you stick with general transcription.

There are numerous companies that hire transcriptionists with or without experience. It’s preferable to get some form of training.

4. Paid Survey Jobs Online

You won’t get rich doing surveys but it can certainly help pay the bills and you can have fun doing it too! Filling out surveys is one of the easiest types of work from home jobs online. 

You could fill out a paid survey on weekends or evenings while you are watching television. Normally each survey takes about 20-30 minutes to do and the pay can range anywhere between $3-5 a survey or some higher paid surveys pay up to $50 per survey.

One company that pays up to $50 per survey is Vindale Research. These surveys do take a bit longer than 30 minutes to fill out.

5. Freelance Writing

Another desirable work from home job is freelance writing. Many aspiring entrepreneurs are attracted to this type of job because it is so flexible in work hours and you can start with no experience! 

If you love to write, this may be a fantastic work from home option for you!

Keep in mind, if you don’t have any experience, the entry-level jobs are not high paying but you can build up your experience so you can later charge more for your work.

There are actual websites that pay instantly when they’ve accepted an article from you.

I’ve been blogging since 2009. I started blogging part-time but now it’s my full-time job and I love it! There are many reasons to start a blog (making money from home is just one of them!).

7. Become a Scopist

If you love to read, write, and edit, a career as a Scopist might just be for you!

The job of a Scopist is to edit files. Specifically, they edit legal transcripts for court reports.

Scopists receive these legal documents by court reporters to check for spelling errors, vocabulary and any other edits needed so the document makes sense to read.

While court reports do most of their work in court, scopists can do their work from home or anywhere with an good internet connection! Files are received and returned via the internet.

Are you wondering how much money you can make? 

The average salary of a Scopist ranges from $35,000-$45,000 per year but more with more experience, one can expect to be making between $50,000-$70,000+ a year.

8. Online Bookkeeper

Becoming a Virtual Bookkeeper has become quite popular these days. Many companies hire bookkeepers to work remotely from home while other virtual bookkeepers work as a freelancer.

9. Dog Sitting

If you love dogs, then you may enjoy dog sitting as a form of making money from home! 10. Teach English From Home

Life Coaches are self-employed and there is no formal training required to call oneself a Life Coach.

One can easily set up a Life Coach business from home.

However, it’s best to get some sort of training as a Life Coach as it will help your credibility with clients.

15. Travel Agent

If you love to travel and talk about various vacation destinations, or you’ve always wanted to work in the travel industry, becoming a virtual travel agent from home would be the ideal job for you.

There are two routes you could go with a work at home travel agent job: as an independent contractor or working with a host agency.

Regardless of what route you take, in terms of salary, according to Glassdoor, travel agents generally make anywhere between $29,000-$58,000 per year

16. Offer Translation Services

If you could read and write fluently in another language, you could offer this service to anyone actively searching for help with this on either Fivver, Upwork, or Verbalizeit.

Fiverr allows you to post translation (and other services) as a GIG. It is a very popular platform where those in need of a service purposely search Fivver looking to have a certain job done for them.

To get started doing translation work from home: sign up for Fiverr, post your services, and respond to any requests.

You can also look on Upwork to see if there are any postings of anyone seeking translation services in your language and reply to the job posting.

Verbalizeit is a company that hires freelance translators online.

Once hired, you’ll receive work notifications when a translation job is available. When you accept and complete a job for review, you’ll receive a completion credit. Payment for the translation work is made via PayPal on the 15th and 30th of each month.


17. Selling on Etsy

Are you the crafty and/or creative type?

Consider selling your creations on Etsy.

If you love to take photographs this could be a great work from home job for you.

To get started: take MANY photos while you are out taking a walk with your family or anytime and anywhere really! Then, be sure to take a photography class and also learn how to use an image software program like photoshop to perfect your photos.

You will also need a good high quality camera to take photos. I’ve heard this camera takes amazing photos.

Once you have some awesome photos, you can license and sell them off to companies that will buy them so they could use them for their business! Oh and believe it or not, you could also learn how to sell feet pics and make good money!

Another option is to start offering your services for free to your friends and family to take photos for special occasions like birthdays, weddings, graduation, and more. Once you gain some experience, word-of-mouth will spread and you can begin charging for your services.  

Wedding photographers often charge $3,000+ for a wedding photo shoot.

I do recommend you sharpen your photography skills. Digital Photography School has a really good variety of reasonably priced courses for both beginner and intermediate photographers.


19. Sell an ebook 

If you like both writing and marketing, then writing an ebook might be for you.

You could sell it on Amazon as a Kindle book, or do what I’ve done with my ebooks, and sell it through Sendowl.

How much money you make with your ebook will depend on the price of the ebook and how many people know about it.

To get started? Create your ebook using Google docs or another word document . Then using and Adazing, create some graphics. Don’t forget to make your ebook into a pdf (easy to do!). Then sign up for Sendowl to setup taking payments.

Finally, get the word out about your ebook. Having a blog to promote your ebook is one of the best ways to market your book.

The more ebooks you create, the more income you can earn – all while working at home!


20. Start a Preschool At Home

Another legitimate work from home job if you like working with kids is to start a preschool at home. 

This is different than opening up an in-home daycare. You will work less hours that a daycare if you start a preschool.

21. Start a Youtube Channel

Do you ever see those videos of moms cleaning up around the house AND getting millions of views?!

There are numerous stay-at-home moms who record videos of what they do throughout the day and share their tips. Moms love these videos!

Ever wonder how much can you make with a Youtube channel?

How much you get paid can vary depending on how many videos you put out and how people are liking your videos. The more views you get, the more money you could make through advertisements and referral sales.

There are Youtubers who make $10,000+ a month.

22. Become a Nail Technician From Home (or Esthetician!)

If you enjoy doing your nails and socializing with others, this may be the perfect work from home job for you! You only need a few things to set yourself up to become a nail technician from home. Chairs, nail polish, and nail fillers are the main things you will need and not much more than that.

Many small businesses are using Pinterest to increase their reach online and seek others to manage their Pinterest accounts. 

If you already spend time on Pinterest yourself, this may be a job you enjoy doing – and you can do it from home!

As a Freelance Pinterest Manager, you’ll be responsible for growing and maintaining the Pinterest accounts of your clients, to help drive traffic to their company website.

Specifically, you’ll be creating Pinterest boards that are keyword optimized, creating new pins, scheduling pins, and applying to group boards.

How Much Money Can I Make as a Pinterest Manager?

As a freelancer, so you’ll be free to set your own rates. Pinterest Managers do generally charge a monthly fee for their services, which ranges from $300-$500/month per client, depending on the services being offered.

Besides my blog, I do a variation of #11 where I work/sell at several kids’ consignment sale pop-up events throughout the year. I generally make $1K-$2K per sale, which is a nice supplement to our “day jobs.”
