I’m not joking when I say I eat my favorite snack every day. It is filling, packed with protein and makes you feel like you are eating dessert!
I eat healthy most of the time, and yogurt, especially the plain yogurt, is considered to be quite healthy since it doesn’t contain all the artificial sugar that most yogurts do contain in it. The problem is – the taste of plain yogurt is not pleasing since there is no sweetness added to it.
I tried adding fresh berries or other fruit and a little bit of honey but I was never completely satisfied. The plain yogurt that I use is the ‘Greek yogurt’ not the regular yogurt.
What’s the difference between Greek yogurt and traditional regular yogurt?
Although both Greek yogurt and regular yogurt contain the same ingredients (milk and bacterial cultures), greek yogurt is more strained than regular yogurt so it contains less liquid, more concentrated protein content, and a thicker consistency.
How did I make plain Greek yogurt taste so yummy?
I don’t recall exactly where I got the idea that inspired my favorite snack but it was somewhere online about a year ago and I’ve added my own twist to the snack and I’ve been eating it every day ever since I tried it once and loved it.
The idea to make Greek yogurt taste yummy is to add some healthy fat -not sugar! Add any nut butter of your choice to plain greek yogurt and it starts to taste more like dessert! I use natural peanut butter:)
I’ll share with you what I do step by step to prepare my awesomeness treat.
My Favorite Healthy Snack – Quick Prep:
1. In a small bowl, add about ¾ cup of plain Greek yogurt.
2. Add 1 tsp. of natural peanut butter (plain or crunchy) almond butter, or other nut butter.
3.Cut up ½ an apple into slices and place in the same bowl or separate bowl.
4. Mix together the peanut butter and Greek yogurt slightly.
5. Use the apple slices to scoop up the deliciousness and enjoy!
Sometimes I also add cinnamon. This is hands down my all-time favorite snack it feels like I’m cheating on my diet:) The smooth, creamy texture of the yogurt with the taste of peanut butter and crunchy sweet apples is just amazing! You have to try it at least once and then come back and tell me if you liked it and what variation did you try.
Maybe you already enjoy apple slices with nut butter. Try adding in the plain Greek yogurt ( if you can tolerate dairy of course) and see if you like it. If you don’t like apples, you can always try another fruit. I’ve tried this with strawberries and bananas but apples are still my favorite with this snack.
I’d love to know…what is your favorite healthy snack?
